Latest Update (v0.2.3):

  • Fix bug with undo system when switching between the brush and marker tool (thanks @Plague)
  • Change hotkey of Colour Picker (P) and Marker (M) to make more sense.

----

Flipbook Doodler allows you to very quickly create flipbook-style animations. I built it for personal use in some of the quick prototypes I make but will keep updating it as I use it.

I use it to make incredibly-high-quality-stuff™ that you can see in the sidebar to the right...

..and you too can make incredibly-high-quality stuff™ if you follow these simple steps:

  • Use the brush, pencil, eraser tools in the left column to draw your image
  • Use left and right arrows to flip between frames
  • Press play to preview your animation
  • Tap save and set a filename to save your file as a png
  • Use my custom Unity sprite shader to display your creations in Unity

Note: Try saving to file as often as you can. It's generally a pretty stable app, but the undo system can get a little weird at times so it's probably best to save your work as you go.

---------------------------------------------------------

Flipbook Doodler SUPPORTS the following:

  • Adjustable width, height and frame amount (defaults to four 512x512 layers)
  • Brush tool allowing you to draw with a mouse or pen (supports pen pressure!)
  • Pencil tool allowing you to draw with a mouse or pen (ignores pen pressure)
  • Eraser tool
  • * Paint Bucket tool (with known issue of weird aliasing around edges)
  • Color Picker
  • Onion-skinning allowing you to view previous frames as you draw
  • Ability to save your animation as a spritesheet
  • Ability to load back your spritesheet as an animation
  • Custom colour palettes! Save and load palettes from file.

It currently DOES NOT SUPPORT the following:

  • ability to export frames as .png sequence or gif, etc. (it currently only exports as a png)

Right now this is just a quick app for personal use, but I'd love to hear feedback!

howdy, i believe i found a bug you may want to squish.

When i use the maker then shift over to the brush tool, and use undo, the whole thing acts like it was made with the brush and all the lines go really tiny. the issue goes the other way around as well.

Thank for making this tool

Oh! Nice find! I've uploaded a new version with that bug fixed (and a similar one - seemed like it was affecting the eraser too) and threw a link to your profile in the patch notes. Let me know if that's okay - and let me know if you find any other bugs or have any feature requests.

thats fine, thank you my friend.

AMAZING! That's so cool.

...and you now hold a special place in my heart as you're the first person to use my tool and show me the result. Thanks for sharing!

thanks for making!

if you're taking suggestions, i think a small colour palette feature would make a big difference. maybe just 4 or 5 colours so you don't have to flip back and forth when colouring

edit: just saw the devlog nvm lol! looking forward to future updates and drawing more in this

Thank you for the feedback! I've just posted an update with an early version of the colour palette system.

You can create a colour palette and save and load palettes from file.

Unfortunately you can't fully setup your color palettes with just a drawing pen as you'll need the keyboard for setting and deleting colours for now but I'll see if I can remove that restriction in future!

This is a good tool, the quality is just as need be and the example conquered my heart

Thank you for the comment! Let me know if there's any particular features you would like - and I'll see if I can add them.

I'm currently adding support for different sized images and more animation frames so that should be available in the near future.
